About Us

Brief History

S.P.Photographics was formed in 1992 by two business partners, Simon Parkinson and Philip Cooke. The company began after Simon finished a photography and graphic design course at South-East Derbyshire College and had also been photographing part-time for a national sports magazine, which had taken him all over the UK and Europe. The initial set-up was a darkroom to cater for black and white printing and a small studio in a room above the local pharmacy in Melbourne town centre to do portrait sittings. Philip, meanwhile, had been gaining many years of photographic printing experience in a professional laboratory in Derby but wanted to do more photography, as opposed to just printing other peoples work, so in 1992 a partnership was created.

Today we are still based in Melbourne but now with a large office incorporating a relaxed meeting area where we can discuss customer requirements and they can view our work. The main photographic studio is a purpose built facility with ease of use in mind to accommodate the diversity of jobs of which we undertake and our Passport/Personal ID photography service now takes place in its own dedicated studio. A gallery leads customers through the building showcasing some of S.P.Photographics more diverse work and just recently a modern changing room has been added for customers to prepare for their photography session in comfort.

Summary of Services

We undertake most projects whether in our dedicated studio or out on location with Weddings, Portraits, Commercial and Freelance assignments being our core business. Our main studio in Melbourne is used for a vastly different amount of photography projects including commercial product shooting, company brochure and catalogue work, fashion and modelling photography, family portrait sittings and anything else where we need total control over the subject lighting. Our on location service's take us all over the UK covering corporate/hospitality events, product launches, on-site product photography, sporting occasions, weddings and anything else where the photography has to take place on location.
